EUCHARIST
"The Eucharist is the very sacrifice of the Body and Blood of the Lord Jesus which he instituted to perpetuate the sacrifice of the cross throughout the ages until his return in glory. Thus he entrusted to his Church this memorial of his death and Resurrection. It is a sign of unity, a bond of charity, a paschal banquet, in which Christ is consumed, the mind is filled with grace, and a pledge of future glory is given to us" (Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, n. 271).
CONFIRMATION
"The effect of Confirmation is a special outpouring of the Holy Spirit like that of Pentecost. This outpouring impresses on the soul an indelible character and produces a growth in the grace of Baptism. It roots the recipient more deeply in divine sonship, binds him more firmly to Christ and to the Church, and reinvigorates the gifts of the Holy Spirit in his soul. It gives a special strength to witness to the Christian faith" (Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, n. 268).
SACRAMENTS OF HEALING
RECONCILIATION
"The risen Lord instituted this sacrament on the evening of Easter when he showed himself to his apostles and said to them, 'Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained" (John 20:22-23) (Catechism of the Catholic Church, n. 298).
At St. George, we offer the opportunity to celebrate the sacrament of Reconciliation every week on Wednesday evenings
*or by appointment.
Confessions are heard in church on Wednesdays: 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM. Please enter through the south entrance near the handicapped parking lot.
*An appointment can be made for confession by calling the Church Office at (817) 831-4404.
Here are videos that can help make a better confession.
ANOINTING OF THE SICK
"Having received from the Lord the charge to heal the sick, the Church strives to carry it out by taking care of the sick and accompanying them with her prayer of intercession. Above all, the Church possesses a sacrament specifically intended for the benefit of the sick. This sacrament was instituted by Christ and is attested by Saint James: 'Is anyone among you sick? Let him call in the priests of the Church and let them pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord' (James 5:14-15)."
(Catechism of the Catholic Church, 316)
The Rite of Anointing tells us there is no need to wait until a person is at the point of death to receive the Sacrament.
A careful judgment about the serious nature of the illness is sufficient.
Emergency: In the event of an emergency, if you are in need of Anointing of the Sick,
please call the Church Office at (817) 831-4404.
Non-Emergency: If the request for Anointing of the Sick is for a non-emergency situation, please email a request at parish.office@sgccftw-tx.org or call our parish office to set an appointment. Appointments for non-emergency situations will be scheduled during office hours ONLY.
SACRAMENTS OF SERVICE
HOLY MARRIAGE
"The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament." Code of Canon Law, 1055
Contact the Church Office at (817) 831-4404 to schedule an appointment with a priest or deacon.
HOLY ORDERS / VOCATIONS
God created us to know, love, and serve Him. He created us in His image, male and female. In every human being can be found both His image and likeness. This theological mystery is at the center of all meaning. From this non-competitive interplay of divine and human, we find the ability to be special and to create a world that reflects the originality and magnanimity of God.
As Catholics, we celebrate the fact that we are not meaningless creatures that are burdened with creating our own destiny. In fact, our destiny is to rejoin God in beatitude, to use this pilgrim life on Earth to proclaim the Gospel, and to recreate the world.
What is a Vocation?
A vocation, therefore, is to respond repeatedly to the voice of our Father in heaven and to spread the flame of love all over the world. It is to proclaim Jesus Christ and to be a witness of His love in the places that He is needed most. We all have an invitation to be a part of the world that yearns to see the face of God, even in the ordinary and secular. A vocation is the will of God, discerned by hearing and responding to the voice of the Creator. There is no single greater call than the persistent and enduring design of God.
What is the priesthood?
Simply, it is following Christ's example to serve his people. The priesthood serves in particular by bringing others to Christ through the sacraments. They can offer our prayers to God by the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and lead us to communion with God through the Eucharist. "The Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many." (Matthew 20:28)
What is Religious Life?
Each Religious Order is distinguished by their charism, spirituality, rule, apostolate ministry, and the way they live fraternal life. Having the guidance of a knowledgeable Spiritual Director and Vocation Director can greatly assist you during your discernment.
Men who are discerning about the Priesthood or religious life, please contact Father Nghia.
Women are encouraged to contact the Vocations Office for assistance in discerning whether God is calling them
to a vocation to the Religious/Consecrated Life.
